Hi!

I’m Melody and I love to eat!

I grew up in Hong Kong and have always loved food. I’ve been told by a number of people that my face literally lights up with a smile whenever I eat something delicious. I’m constantly thinking about what I’m going to eat and I’m always looking forward to my next meal.

When I moved to Los Angeles away from my family, I started to miss home cooked meals and decided to try my hand at cooking. College sophomore year was the first time I ever really cooked but it was a pretty rare occasion to see me in the kitchen. For years I would only cook every once in a while but it was difficult to find the time and energy to after a long work day and a long commute. Since quarantine, that all changed and I’ve been able to cook (almost) everyday! (I honestly don’t know if I can go back to commuting since it’s going to cut into my cooking time.)

Something about a home cooked meal is so comforting and I wanted to share this journey with you so that you can also recreate some of my favorite dishes in your own kitchen. Cooking for others is what fueled me to want to cook more because seeing them enjoy a dish I made just warms my heart. I feel like aside from family, it’s so rare nowadays to get a home cooked meal anywhere else especially in my 20s. It’s one of the reasons I go out of my way to invite others to eat at my place so I can prepare a meal for them from scratch, or stay up at night to prep for an office or team potluck the next day. Can you tell acts of service is one of my top love languages?

I primarily make East Asian food because it’s what my family ate 95% of the time so as you can imagine, that’s the food I crave most now that I no longer live in Hong Kong. My hope is to help others like me find comfort in food that reminds them of home the way it does for me, as well as spread awareness of the variety of East Asian flavors that I can never get enough of!

Thanks for stopping by!
